Safe Harbor Dome Project for South Florida

Billy Elkins Films to create television series for PBS

Coming soon to a PBS station near you: a one-hour television special exploring new building techniques for hurricane and tornado-proof housing including an in depth look at how the Monolithic Dome can solve housing issues in south Florida.

Director Billy Elkins and Producer Deborah Razete-Elkins of Billy Elkins Films wanted to build their dream home in Stuart, Florida, but it had to be a structure that could adequately protect high dollar recording and filming equipment. While investigating many "green" products, they discovered the Monolithic Dome. The Elkins immediately went to work designing their coastal dome home with the help of Stiles Engineering Group.

While planning and designing their home, they decided to produce a one-hour special followed by twenty-six 30-minute episodes and pitched the idea to PBS. The show will feature the construction of their Monolithic Dome and highlight other energy efficient products such as, AC units, appliances, generators, and a modern, low-voltage system.

The Elkins created have a new website featuring progress on the Safe Harbor Dome Project (www.safeharbordome.com). As more information is made available to Monolithic, we will update our readers.
