Dome Church in Canada Underway

May 31, 2005

by Kris Garrison

Members of the First Baptist Church in Lacombe, Alberta, Canada were happy to see the first dome of their two dome facility inflated on a beautiful sunny evening Wednesday May 18th. Their new church, two 88' x 31' oblate shaped domes with a conventional entrance between the two domes, will double the size of the existing church. They are not anticipating any increase in utility costs due to the energy efficiency of dome structures.

Paster Ken Thiessen was introduced to the Monolithic Dome by friends who are planning to build a dome home. He looks forward to welcoming current and new members to the church when it opens in September.

Sherri Turpin of John Hull Architect of Red Deer designed the church. Canadian Dome Industries Ltd. of Saskatoon is constructing the domes.
