Church Plans Expansion With Monolithic Domesand calls it the "Miracle Faith Domes Project"December 30, 2005 by Freda Parker
In a recent telephone conversation with David B. South, president of Monolithic, Executive Pastor Edward Paine of Upper Room Assembly of God Church in Miami, Florida discussed the church's plans for adding Monolithic Domes to their growing facility. Information on the church's website (www.upperroomassembly.com) recounts that decision. It states that "Several years ago, church leadership began addressing the need to expand...." After examining "several different options," they chose dome structures for their "energy efficiency, cost effectiveness, quick construction and the ability to act as emergency shelters." On August 24, 1992 many of the members of Upper Room Church personally experienced the devastation that Andrew, a Category 4 hurricane, wreaked throughout Dade County. So, the Monolithic Dome's ability to provide near-absolute protection from natural disasters, such as hurricanes and tornadoes, favorably impressed them. Architect Jesse M. Harris of LPDJ Architects, LLC headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, who is designing the expansion, said, "Eventually, Upper Room plans to add three Monolithic Domes. This first one will be a two-story dome, with a diameter of 100 feet and a 20-foot stem wall. It will house offices and classrooms." South Industries, Inc. of Menan, Idaho will construct the dome shell. They plan to begin work in mid January and complete the shell in about six weeks. Related Links: |
