Monolithic Dome Schools Reviewed by "District Administration"

June 6, 2006

by Carol Lanham

District Administration, the only education magazine to reach every superintendent in the country, focused on Monolithic Dome schools in its May 2006 issue. The article by Julie Spurgeon highlighted several school districts that have opted for this efficient construction method, including Grand Meadow in Minnesota, Pontiac-William Holliday in Illinois and the Italy Independent School District in Texas. Spurgeon also quotes an Ohio school architect who points out that while construction of dome schools cannot yet be labeled a trend in the education world, they are “an option for solving a certain set of problems in a certain environment.” In particular, domes get a “thumbs up” as a cafeteria, auditorium or sporting venue.
