Domes For The World's (DFTW) extensive housing project in earthquake devastated Indonesia became the recent focus of three, feature, video segments.
The presentation was hosted by Kimberly Perkins of “Profiles in Caring,” a broadcaster of “good news about good work around the world.”
All three segments can be viewed on YouTube, an Internet service that describes itself as “the leader in online video, and the premier destination to watch and share original videos worldwide....”
Part 1 About Indonesia
The series begins with an introduction to Indonesia, particularly Java, its most densely populated and earthquake prone area. It touches on the history, culture and ancient splendor of the area, then contrasts that with the devastation created by the May 2006 earthquake.
Rebecca South, DFTW president, is interviewed. She describes her visit to Indonesia as the “most eye-opening experience of her life” and talks about the inhabitants of 400 destroyed houses.
Part 2 About building EcoShells
This middle segment documents the six-month process and progress DFTW made in relocating an entire homeless village and building 72 EcoShell homes, each large enough for a family of six.
Rebecca talks about upgrading roads and providing the local men with paying jobs by training them to hand-build EcoShells.
Part 3 About a celebration
The final video describes the celebration, including speeches by the King, the Minister of Housing and various other dignitaries, that followed all the backbreaking work.
According to Rebecca, construction of the EcoShell homes came in under budget. That allowed DFTW to build a mosque, a primary school, a medical clinic and community bathing and laundry facilities for the village.
