Monolithic EcoShell Built with Basalt Roving

Developing nations, some like Haiti that is earthquake-devastated, need housing that is not only disaster-resistant but easily and inexpensively constructed. A new video, hosted by David South, president of Monolithic and Domes For The World, presents just such a structure. It’s a Monolithic EcoShell that can be built far less expensively and easily than ever before.

Reason: A new product called “Basalt Roving” is used to reinforce the concrete, instead of traditional rebar. David shows the Basalt Roving which looks like and is as thin as hair but extremely strong. It’s manufactured using basalt/lava rock which is much less money when compared to steel as well as an abundant natural resource! And does not rust.

This video includes an EcoShell whose Airform is sprayed with concrete, wrapped with Basalt Roving, and tested with tons of weight placed on its top.
