These four Monolithic Domes in Genola, Utah were designed and built as a facility for Utah’s migrant workers. It includes a Head Start school for children and various educational programs for adults.
For two of the Monolithic Domes, 17-foot-high stemwalls were used.
Using the Monolithic process, two towerlike domes, each measuring 30′ × 15′ were built atop 17’ cylindrical stemwalls. The domes house a kitchen, cafeteria and resource center.
It measures 101′ × 31′ and encompasses classrooms, offices, a nurse’s station and more.
A balcony in the Activity Dome overlooks the recreational area.
All entryways and openings are inset in the dome shells. A conventional connector joins two of the domes.
Head Start classroom is furnished with supplies and educational toys. Note the drawings that Brigham Young University students carved into the wet shotcrete.
Children as well as directors participated in the ribbon cutting on opening day.
